Monsters Transaction Update: The Colorado Avalanche announced that Stefan Elliott and Michael Sgarbossa have been reassigned to the Lake Erie Monsters. The Avs have placed David van der Gulik on waivers effective January 17th.

SERIOUSLY?! What's up with that? Does this mean the farm team, (the Monsters) will pick him up and pay him his contract and he will be ours? (Right of recall)

Or are they REALLY hoping someone else will take OUR Vandy?!

vandy is my favorite player..i can only hope no nhl team wants him so the monsters can sign him as a monster player with no chance for nhl call up.

You do remember he was sent "down" during the lockout and then recalled by the avalanche. This is just how it is. He could get picked up in the 24 hour window he's on waivers.

If I'm understanding it correctly, I believe there was no choice but to place Vandy on waivers? I think he's well past the age/experience level at which he can be sent to the minors without passing through waivers first. This was not a case of Colorado saying, "Well, he's expendable." This was a case of giving him his shot in camp and he wasn't able to claim a spot on Colorado's (admittedly limited) roster, so he's gotta go through waivers. For his sake, I hope another team claims him and he gets a chance in the NHL. But for our sake, I'd like to see him back here!

Exactly. With how his contract is, the only way to get back down with LEM is to be put on waivers. It's not exactly an indictment on his skill, just a lack of room.

Haven't seen a "such and such team claimed VDG off of waivers" so I'm going to say he's cleared
